A Bigger Picture presents a new vision for the climate movement based on resilience, sustainability and genuine equality, as well as telling the inspiring personal story of how a young woman found her voice. Nakate shows readers that no matter your age, location, skin colour, you can be an effective activist.
In January 2020, while attending the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, Nakate was cropped out of a photo by the Associated Press; the only four other activists left in the picture were all white. That action not only cropped out the only Black activist, it removed the only representative of a whole continent from the image. This revealed rampant inequalities within the climate justice movement and demonstrated what Nakate had been saying all along: the Global South is on the front line but it is not on the front page.
